PCAP provides a pre-implementation checklist that helps agencies assess the feasibility of replicating the program. The checklist outlines the community and agency characteristics necessary to support program replication.
Developer certification is not required to replicate the model.
Staff implementing PCAP must attend a three-day training that provides an overview of the model, including the theoretical foundations and core components; service delivery forms; goal setting with clients; implementation and supervision best practices; supervision, safety, and legal protocols; case manager boundaries; strategies for avoiding burnout; and an introduction to the program evaluation tools with practice exercises.
Additional case manager training that involves shadowing experienced case managers is available.
PCAP recommends additional supervisor training that includes instruction on the Addiction Severity Index, which is used to assess needs and measure program outcomes, and the opportunity to shadow experienced PCAP supervisors.
Staff are not required to achieve certification to implement the program.
Case managers and supervisors must participate in an annual two-day refresher training on the fundamentals of the PCAP model, including service delivery best practices, interactive goal-setting and practice, and case manager safety protocols and boundaries.
