Pre-service staff training

Before implementing the model, home visitors must complete the four-day VIPP-SD training. The training covers the model’s theoretical background and goals. Trainers discuss case examples and home visitor trainees complete exercises. After the training, trainees must complete three coaching sessions with VIPP-SD coaches. Trainees practice preparing feedback for an example case and then meet with the coach via Skype to discuss their practice feedback.

Home visitors must achieve certification to implement the model. After completing the training and coaching sessions, the coach certifies trainees who have demonstrated proficiency in the model. To maintain certification, home visitors must serve at least two families per year and receive at least one hour of coaching.

In-service staff training

After home visitors achieve certification and begin serving families, they have the opportunity to become an official coach. To apply, home visitors complete a registration form and meet with an official VIPP-SD trainer.

To become certified trainers, home visitors must have participated as a co-trainer at least three times during an official VIPP-SD training course.

No information is available about other types of in-service staff training provided.
