Average Cost per Family
According to the Office of Head Start, the average cost per child ranges from $9,000 to $12,000 (2012 dollars). Estimates are based upon costs associated with delivering comprehensive services on a year round basis, which include weekly 90 minute home visits and at least 22 socializations per year. Estimates also include costs for the assessments administered for children and families, case management, facilitation and tracking of referrals, and other program resources such as management and supervisory supports.
