Requirements for Program Certification

Implementing the model requires approval from the developer.

Pre-Service Staff Training

Parent coach trainees must attend a two-day pre-service training. The development team offers the training for small groups annually in Newark, Delaware. For larger groups, the development team conducts training at program sites. The training provides a general overview of the model, including its research base, and reviews the content of all 10 home visiting sessions. Trainers use didactic and experiential approaches to introduce parent coach trainees to “in the moment” commenting and coding of these comments.

Certification for parent coaches is required. Parent coaches must demonstrate adherence to fidelity standards and recertify every two years.

In-Service Staff Training

In-service training consists of required weekly videoconference sessions with supervisors.

Training Materials

Training materials include intervention and coding manuals. The intervention manual explains the content of each home visiting session, suggests ways to present the material, and describes and provides examples of "in the moment" comments. The coding manual provides guidance for coding the videotaped sessions.

Qualified Trainers

The program development team provides the training.

Technical Assistance

The program development team provides ongoing technical assistance.
